Letters from John Pendleton Kennedy [manuscript], 1834-1869.

Collection consists mostly of letters from J.P.K. to various recipients, including Brig. Gen. A. Henderson, William M. Givin (Secretary of the U.S. Navy), and Alexander R. Boteler. Also included is part of an introduction to the new edition of "Horse Shoe," n.d.; and an engraving of J.P.K. by H.B. Hall, ca. 1854.

Alexander R. Boteler (1815-1892) was Virginia political leader, congressman, and Civil War soldier. He graduated from Princeton College, Princeton, New Jersey. He was active in politics before the Civil War and much of his correspondence relates to the election of 1860 and the Constitutional Union Party.
